Lobster Rolls and a Cookbook Contest!

Yes, that is a good old-fashioned lobster roll in front of you, and it come from one of my new favorite cookbooks, STONEWALL KITCHEN FAVORITES. If you've been reading my blog for a while, you know that I would basically like to move into the Stonewall Kitchen and live there for the rest of my life. Click here for just a few of the many, many, many reasons why. At any rate, the folks at Stonewall Kitchen heard about my adoration and were nice enough to send me a copy of their amazing cookbook. First of all, the food photography made me both deliriously happy AND think I better practice a little more with my own Nikon. It's just glorious. And the recipes...every bit as wonderful as I hoped they would be.

And happily, I have one more of these fabulous cookbooks to give away!

More info on how to enter for the giveaway at the bottom of this post...but first we must discuss the lobster roll, which (of course) came from this fabulous cookbook.

Among the many, many other talented things that the Southern husband does is keep an eye on all the various supermarkets in the area for when lobster goes on sale. We just LOVE lobster in this house (who doesn't?), but it does make me squirm a little when the price of cooking dinner starts rivaling the mortgage payment. So whenever he spots it on sale he makes sure to pick up a few of those babies, and to have have supermarket steam them up so they are cooked and ready for action. I have a few recipes that I go back to again and again that call for cooked lobster, but some days there is nothing like a good old-fashioned lobster roll.

Enter the Stonewall Kitchen Favorites, which has a lobster roll recipe that has now become my favorite lobster roll recipe of all time. It's light and creamy and classic and perfect. And EASY. You take a couple of lobsters-worth of lobster meat, tear it into bite-sized pieces, and mix it up with lime zest, lime juice, fresh ginger, chopped scallion and just the teeny-tiny-est bit of mayo.

Then lightly toast a few hot dog rolls. In an ideal world, you will have top-split hot dog rolls (which are sometimes called New England-style. Why? I have no idea.). Butter them lightly, and then spoon the lobster salad into the rolls.

You have now pretty much achieved Lobster Roll Nirvana. It just doesn't get any better than this.

Recipe is below, but first the giveaway: I have one glorious copy of Stonewall Kitchen Favorites to give away to a lucky winner, and get this: it is also signed by the authors. All those spectacular recipes, and signed by the authors as well...it's almost as good as that lobster roll! Just leave me a comment on this post telling me your favorite summer recipe, and next Sunday I will pick one lucky, lucky recipient of this amazing cookbook. My beloved email subscribers, you can enter by clicking the post title, which will take you to the website where you can comment.

But first...lobster roll!

  11. This is a fantastic giveaway! I finally went to Stonewall Kitchen in York when I was on vacation in Ogunquit and I fell in love. I want to go back for a cooking class!

My favorite summer recipe has definitely been my pesto orecchiette with fava beans, feta and cherry tomatoes. I've really been utilizing lots of great fresh, local and seasonal ingredients this summer!

  12. Just one!? Hm...well I made this great grilled corn chowder a few weeks ago that was awesome. But really, desserts are always my favorite, so I'll say the blueberry icebox pie I made recently. I'm such a sucker for graham cracker crusts and whipped cream. :)

Is this the same Stonewall Kitchen that makes all those gourmet sauces?

  13. OMG. That looks incredible. I have never had lobster rolls, but I LOVE ME SOME LOBSTER! I wanted to buy some this summer but I am too afraid to kill it and cook it. I will have to check and see if our grocer will steam it for me!

As for me? My fave summer food is cucumber salad or a grilled brat. There is NOTHING like a brat, and some fresh corn on the cob! YUM.

  14. ever since we moved to the steamy south, ice cream has been a summer favorite. our copy of david liebowitz's 'the perfect scoop' is well-used, and there's not a clunker recipe in the book! though if lobsters were fresh here (and not a zillion dollars), believe that lobster rolls would be on our table regularly. what a treat!

    cheers,

    *heather*

  16. LOVE your blog! My favourite summer recipe has to be cedar planked salmon served with a strawberry mesclun salad:
strawberries, toasted almonds, crumbled goat's cheese, green onions and homemade citrus poppy seed dressing.
salmon, bbq'ed on a cedar plank: slice red onion into rings, place on top of salmon; mix 1/2 cup balsamic dressing with 3/4 maple syrup. brush over salmon. bbq for 25 minutes or until fish flakes. re-brush once or twice to caramelize. Easy, delicious, and always a crowd pleaser!

    garlic as desired
    1/2 c oil

  19. Quinoa and Farmers Market Veggie Salad. So we start with a trip to the farmers market and grab what's available, my favorites are fresh green beans, sweet corn, and cherry tomatoes. Drop some Quinoa in the rice cooker with some chicken broth. Mix some chopped fresh sage in a sauce pan with a little butter and minced garlic, salt & pepper sauté veggies until tender. Toss with cooked Quinoa and top with shaved parm. I like to half the tomatoes and add at the very last moment. Puuurrrrfect summertime food

  21. My favorite summer recipe is grilled sweet corn! Wrap sweet corn in foil (or you can put it directly on the grill, but I personally prefer the subtle smokiness that you get when it's wrapped) and grill it alongside whatever's for dinner that night! Slather with lots of butter and eat!

  42. One of my favorite summer things is a rice salad from Martha Stewart Living. Jasmine rice mixed with marinated red onions, olive oil, salt, pepper, lots of fresh garlic, lemon zest and juice, and chopped fresh dill. Fabulous served hot or cold, and if you add a few Kalamata olives and some grilled shrimp, it's beyond compare. I bet if you substituted the abovementioned steamed lobster for the shrimp, it would be toe-curling good.

  49. Because of some of your prior posts, I went and bought several things from Stonewall :)

Favorite summer recipe? Ooooo, tough one. Hmm, Probably steak and chicken skewers, marinated and tossed with some veggies in my individual kebob baskets. The family scarfs them right up.

And my favorite summer cocktail-brandy slush. I just remember my Mom having it in the summers in our dinky little back deck. Now I like to have in my favorite yellow chair while looking out over the cornfields.

What a beautiful looking cookbook-from the cover at least!

  51. I love lobster rolls! Another summer favorite is a corn, avocado, tomato and black bean salad that can also serve as a dip when served with chips.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Favorite summer recipe? When the tomatoes are in line with the onions there is nothing better than fresh salsa - two ways. I prefer a small dice of tomato, yellow onion, minced garlic and jalapeno, chopped cilantro from the herb barrel, freshly squeezed lime, a drizzle of oil, and salt and pepper to taste. Grilling husband throws halved tomatoes, sliced onions, jalapenos, and whole head garlic on the grill. Take the tomatoes off before they fall apart, the rest should be barely tender. Let cool, chop gently, and proceed the same as the fresh type. Heaven on a chip! Lots of cold sangria alongside.

It's kind of like a stuffed bell pepper but a thick soup (tomato base with rice, ground beef, green peppers and onions...simple but hearty and comforting). It reminds me of my grandma, she would make it every summer because that's when bell peppers are in season. When I would stay with my grandparents during the summer I would gobble up bowl after bowl after bowl!

  86. This summer's recipe discovery for me was a Watermelon Salad from Rio Mar Restaurant in New Orleans. I've tinkered with my own version (which I never do!)until I think I'm pretty close. Anyways, think chunks of cool watermelon, luscious crab, tangy bleu cheese, zippy balsamic vinegar and finish with a little heat- I'm using serrano chilis... Flavors that shouldn't work, but during the summer months, they become BFFs! Thanks, Julie

  89. What a Lobster Roll recipe! I am originally from Maine, and have been to Stonewall's flagship store in Kittery many times. I love walking around drooling at all of the food items, cookware, and cookbooks. Sometimes they even have a cooking class where you can watch through the glass windows. To say the least, I would love to add this cookbook to my Maine cookbook collection! And, to think it is signed by the authors! What a bonus!
My favorite summer recipe has to be Lobster Rolls, of course. I always eat as many of them as I can when I vacation in Maine during the summer. Your photos not only made me crave a lobster roll, but made me homesick for Maine.
